John Ashman (1823) first appears at Dover in Kent born at Sulton (Solton) Cottage West Cliffe Dover on February 7th 1823 born to John Ashman 1758 and Elizabeth Arnold.
Next public appearanceit seems is in the Dover Telegraph & Cinque Ports Advertiser at the age of 16 on 2nd May 1839.....

John Ashman a lad recently in the service of Mr C H Harvey, Coal Merchant, was examined on Wednesday on a charge of embezzling money, the property of his employer. The Prisoner who had absconded was apprehended by the Police at Rochester. He has since been committed for Trial.
The same paper reports on 6th April 1839...........John ashman pleaded guilty of embezzling 8 shillings and 6 pence the property of Charles Henry Harvey, Coal Merchant, his employer. The court addressed the prisoner on the agravated nature of such an offence against an employer and sentenced him to 6 Months imprisonment and Hard Labour.

John later joins the army and is posted to Leeds, Yorkshire, England.

John met Ann Wild of Leeds and on 18 Nov 1844 when Ann was aged 19 they married. Their first 2 children are born in London the next 2 in Leeds and the last 3 in Flairsworth, Moston and Newton Heath.
Ann was baptised into the LDs Church in 1852.After saving their money for 11 years John & Ann left for the United States to be with their eldest daughter Ane Elizabeth.

John Ashman(1823) Born February 7 1823 in Dover, Kent, England Died April 27 1909 in Fillmore,Millard,Utah. John was a traveling Patriarch for the Mormon church in Fillmore, Utah in the later years of his life.

The picture hangs in the Millard Co Territorial State House- Fillmore, Ut. It's a pic taken of the picture hanging there so it's not the best quality. Abe had a disease as a young man & lost all of his hair. His wife made wigs for him.
