The town of Deal situated on the south-east coast of England has an intriguing history of maritime activities, included smuggling.

Joseph Elgar Marsh

Most of the information about Joseph and his family was obtained while I was assisting other researchers. However, there was a coincidence in that there were three Snoswell sisters who married Marsh men - two are shown below. The third Snoswell sister married a Marsh from my extended family. I know of no connection from Joseph Elgar Marsh to my line If some person has traced this family beyond Joseph Elgar, I would like to hear from them.

Update 29 May 2001. Paul Phelps advises that Joseph Elgar Marsh was baptized 30 Nov 1796 at St Leonard's Church, Deal, the son of Joseph and Ann Marsh. Can anybody come up with a baptism, marriage or burial for Joseph senior?
